This is true for all US car dealers. Labor charge is how that make money !!!
an example replacing Spark Plugs, it would take up to 1 hour with the right tools (I did it in 25 mins) and the Dealer will quote this for 4 hours.
They charge $130 per hour x 4 hours. $520 + parts (even those cost double at the dealer) + Tax! lol

So...why only bmw atf? Not sure if I buy that
to keep your car running for a long time, apparently every year / model change they use a different oil type!!! make sure you give your vin # to dealer
when ordering new oil !!
and the o-ring thing costs about 5$ but you need to change the oil pan gasket anyways wich costs much more!

This will happen to the ATF fluid for our cars as well. It's just a matter of time. In the meantime, BMW can get away with charging us $15-$20/liter for this fluid. If you don't use BMW recommended fluid, all bets are off and you are on your own.

I too had a little surprise when I came back from a 2 week vacation -- a sizable oil puddle under my car! Took it into the dealer Monday and of course, they kept it over night. Turns out it was also the mechatronics seal as well. It's a early 2005 build with only 45K miles on it.
Since i purchased under the CPO program, the whole job cost me my $50 deductble (which also included a 'low mileage oil change'). Sounds like this little repair would have been over $1200, so thank goodness for the CPO!

No kidding! I saw that price in a couple of different posts... per the norm, it is the BMW tech 'labor' that is the killer!
