Just dropped off the car to dealer. They will look into it and change the O-ring. I have extended warranty on my car. If extended warranty does not cover the cost, dealer will do that as a good will. Will see ....

Also, dealer will do the airbag seat mat recall today.

did you tell the dealer that you replaced the tranny fluid yourself?

No, no need to do that. Leak had nothing to do with the tranny fluid replacement. It is because, for USA E60, the drain plug is in drive side rear corner of the tranny oil pan. The fill plug is right above the drain plug, which also in the driver side (left side) of the rear tranny corner. Leak was from the connector (black colour) in the passenger side (right side) of the rear corner of tranny.

I saw posts from e90 which also have this leak too. BMW is aware of this problem and it has a service bulletin SIB 24 08 06 to address this issue. However, I could not find this bulletin in Internet. Hopefully, someone in this forum can post this bulletin for us to reference.

One must use the exact transmission oil as spec'ed by BMW. If you don't, you will definitely blow your transmission. I know my 06 uses Shell oil, which is not available anywhere but the dealer.
Regards.

Update : I got my car back. Dealer replaced the oil pan gasket (24-11-7-571-235), sealing sleeve of the black connector (24-34-7-588-725) and 3 (qts/liters) of tranny fluid.

Total repair cost is about $1119 with only $166 for parts. Labor cost is about $953. I am lucky to have the extended warranty which covered all the cost. Dealer told me to check any more leak after a few days of driving the car. Will keep an eye on it.

Same problem on 04/545. within 10$ of your cost too.
... serious labor - full days worth. The oil is liquid gold too.
Anyways, do you know if the broken part was replaced with the an improved design? I would hope so since this is addressed in SIB.
I asked, was told it's a different part number- therefore must be a "better" design. Just checking with others.

Oh, I did not ask the service rep. However, I looked at the invoice, and the part number was printed on the invoice. I double checked the part number on the invoice against realOEM.com. They matched for my car's model year.

I also looked at RMEuropean.com. They sell this sealing sleeve for about $15.00 with same part number: 24-34-7-588-725. So dealer may just installed the same part (design) to my tranny. Do you know the part number listed on your invoice ??

Wow, that's a lot of $$. Not sure why they would charge so much for labor. It looks like they only used 3 quarts, which means they saved most of the oil and reused it. They added 3 liters for what you probably lost from the leak. I am curious why the labor is so expensive. You would think at max 2 hrs of labor.
Also, did you measure how much oil drained before you added some? I wonder if you added too much oil which could have blown the seal.
Thanks.

When I did mine tranny fluid change, I did measure the amount of old fluid coming out : 4.1 liters. After I finished the change, I roughly used 4.5 liters. Then I had to subtract some new fluid in the catch pan. So the actual amount used would be around 4.1 to 4.2 liters. Too much oil will blow the seal ??

I followed the TIS instruction to pump in fresh fluid. However, we have no way to check the fluid level because it is done via the computer.
