i did think the same, although both my indy and gearbox specialist have said the same. I may suggest they unplug it and see what happens, would this error?
i guess if they are right i could always disconnect the module and reset the values then allow it to re-learn before plugging back in as this should be where the issue lies.
the fluid use for the change on both occasions was the proper stuff, so hopefully no issues there.
the work is al covered under warranty, although it is inconvenient and the work was expensive.

I would assume the car will complain that the light modules aren't communicating. But, they also shouldn't be somehow messing up the transmission. Exactly what interaction do they claim is happening causing the issue?
If it is all under warranty, tell them you don't care what's wrong they need to fix it.

it does seem plausible albeit it quiet far fetched.
the gearbox work is under warranty, but i don't believe the light module is, so if i have to have a new one fitted it will be at my cost, and obviously if this isn't going to rectify the issue id rather not spend out more.

Just came across this thread when researching the Transmission Control Module. I experienced the Transmission Malfunction warning on my 2008 CPO 528i, with 73K miles last Friday night. Afterwards had a hard time shifting (surge?) into second and third gear after stops but managed to limp home without further incident. Later I restarted the car, transmission warning was gone and the car seemed fine. I didn't want to take any chances and had it towed to my BMW dealer Saturday morning.
Yesterday I was informed the fault code(s)/diagnosis is pointing to the Transmission Control Module needing replacement. I asked about fluid level, any leaks or seal replacement, the solenoids too. The answer I got was "no, it's the control module that needs replacing, a common part that fails". I did not think to ask about the fault codes that were stored in the car. As it now stands part has been ordered and is expected to arrive from Florida this Thursday or Friday. In the meantime, I have a 2014 428i Sport courtesy vehicle.
I spent quite a lot of time reading all the threads here and on Bimmerfest about the transmission issues on the E60. After reading one post post about the Transmission Control Module just being a component of the transmission, I am wondering what it is they are actually going to replace, if it will solve my problem and if it might be a sign of problems to come. I have been a customer of this dealer for almost ten years, have had the same SA and have no reason to doubt them. Now have a new young SA and he seems very professional and willing to help, but I am not sure how knowledgeable he is.
Any thoughts or recommendations from anyone would certainly be appreciated.

Sorry to be resurrecting this old thread. However, i just had all my transmission solenoids, transmission pan and filter, electric socket sleeve, mechatronics adapter sleeve, all four sealing sleeves and transmission fluid replaced on my 2008 528i, which is now at 117K miles. Although the transmission seems to be shifting okay now, it is still not as smooth as it was before. It seems to be having a problem shifting into higher gears smoothly, especially on the highway.
I had the job performed by my BMW indy, who has been servicing my car for almost two years now. He has always been very reliable and has given me great service. He claims to have reset the transmission adaptations. However, I am not certain this was done. I have been using the accelerator method of resetting the transmission every now and then, which seems to work for a day or do, then the issue seems to return.
At this point I am wondering if my transmission needs to be replaced. I am also considering getting rid of the car and buying a 2014 CPO 528i I have had my eye on at a local dealer. However, I love my E60 and I want to avoid getting rid of it if at all possible. I am also considering taking my car to a dealer to have them reprogram the car hoping it will solve the problem.
Can anyone offer any recommendations as to what I might do next? I would much rather fix the problem if possible and keep my car.

How many miles have you put on it since the indy reset. Your shifting will act strange until around 150 mi. When I did my fix i had my VB rebuilt instead of just replacing the solenoid plus did the other stuff. It has been perfect for over 30K. Maybe the fluid fill wasnt performed correctly this will cause your issues also. Is it taking longer to shift than it should be? Its hard too break these transmissions. The important thing is doing the right fix and I think just changing solenoids is selling yourself short even though this has worked for some. I just like it to be done right with no questions left when the repair is done. Overall I spent around $900 ($600 for the rebuild and the rest for fluid and replacement parts) but I have a lifetime warranty on the VB so it was money well spent. I only spent that much because I did the mechanic work myself. I hope this helped.
