Default Transmission issue 2008 528xi

Happy Holidays! Wish you all are having nice holidays.

Unfortunately I believe my 2008 528xi needs new/rebuild transmission but wanted to ask forum member for input.

My e60 is around135,000 mile. Did transmission fluid change around 100,000.
Replaced my spark plugs, battery, gasket a month ago. Been doing oil change every 5000 mile.

My car drives rough, but idle's normal. (Gear change is rough on 2nd and 3rd gear)

The other day at gas station it did not want to go in reverse at all after several attempt got Transmission error...I had to put it in neutral to push my car back to drive off. Once I got home I put it in reverse and worked fine.

Is there anything I should do before the transmission rebuild? I checked DIY for the transmission rebuild but couldn't find it.

thank you ahead!

I started my car up it went to reverse fine however this time it didn't want to go drive. After a while I got it working and drove around circle and started hearing some grinding noise from the shifter.

Any input will be helpful.

Default tranny Problem

Did you do the transmission fluid change yourself? Sounds like u don't have enough
fluid. See if you have a leak and make sure it's topped off. Did you use OEM fluid or
compatible substitute? Before you consider an expensive overhaul which you might
consider a BS flush. Normally a flush is not advised on a working tranny but in your
case for about $200 it's worth a try.

Thank you for your input.

I looked into couple other forum post was thinking about following:

1. Transmission Fluid. (Yes I did replace it my self purchased from ECS Tuning used OEM)
2. Replace Shift Solenoids, sealing sleeve, bridge seal, Mechatronic Sleeve
3. Replace Vanos Solenoid (I know I just have issue tried cleaning it out before but came with error message once)

Is there anything else I should consider while I'm down there?

Thank you

I do remember running the car so most likely yes. I'll try working on it either this week or next week.

Did you try the reset? After a fluid change let it readapt. It may not help but its simple and eliminates the obvious.
