Transmission Help
Hey guys. I had a leaking transmission pan on my 550 and had it replaced. A day after I got it replaced I noticed the that the Transmission jerks right before i come to a complete stop. This only is happening in Drive. not when I am manually changing the gears. and it only does it going from 2nd gear to 1st. Now it doesn't do it all the time and I am uncertain of what the problem is. I thought there was not enough oil in the transmission so i took it back to my mechanic and I had him top it off again. Issue is still there, and of course there is no check engine light. Any tips?

Ok so the surging thing (happens to me too) is only in 5th gear. it occurs in automatic mode while driving between 40 and 50 Kmh or around 40Mph.
The car wants to shift to 6th gear but it's like it gets stuck or something. When the surging occurs, put the car in 5th gear manual shift mode and you can replicate it at any speed. This is definitely a flaw in the e60 automatic tranny's. The good thing is I can actually reset it while driving, by placing the car in 5M and keeping it there while driving on the highway. The tranny will surge but eventually stop for a good two weeks. then it'll come back.
the best thing to do is to buy a manual shift BMW if you can find one. way less headaches, and more fun

Did the mechanic reset the adaptation? The ignition on and stepping on the gas pedal for 30 doesn't do anything. I would try finding a shop that can help you reset the tranny adaptation first.
