My Ride: 2006 525i with nav and blue tooth , the wifes and 1999 740il, my beast

Previously I read (I think here) that the transmission does not have a drain plug. Not so! The transmission PAN is replaceable and comes with drain plug, gasket and o-ring

Bavarian Autosport sells em for $242, Partsgeek for $165 Drain fluid, unbolt pan, insert new 0-ring, bolt up pan and refill by pumping through fill hole in side of transmission.(BavAuto part #is 24117536387, Partsgeek W0133-1847360)

Valvoline Max-Life transmission oil meets the BMW specs for my 1999 740il and so I plan to use this fluid for this application also. I change fluid every 60k miles.

If there is a DIY on this site on this please tell me where to find it. I also am trying to figure out how to post pictures....as I am happy to provide some DIY help when I start my projects.

I have NO affiliation with the companies mentioned...

There's a DIY somewhere on here, I'll try to find it. Personally I'm waiting on the Bentley manual to come hopefully very soon (I've got it pre-ordered) to read up on it before doing it myself. I do know there is a temp requirement for the level reading on the fluid.

The fluid spec for the GA6HP19Z (2006 525i) is LT71141 and the Valvoline Maxlife Spec meets this....says so on the bottle.....so I have been using the MUCH less expensive Valvoline Maxlife in my 740il for 50K miles now with no problems....plan to put it in my 525i also.

Look at this site and see the Transmission spec for the E60. Note that this actually states change at 100,000 miles

Yes use only recommended oil ! Got mine changed recently at 108.000 miles, a flush as well, shifts are more smooth, and the car seems to pull away better. Should have done it a lot earlier car now drives like a dream again.
