Hey guys

I was out last night driving on a clear road at about 30-40mph.
The car was in D mode (Auto-box) and all of a sudden this appeared on my screen

I didn't really know what to do, so I pulled over, read the message, switched the car off and then fired her up again. When I switched it back on there were no warning messages and haven't been so for the last 24hrs and i've driven about 40miles.

Should I be worried?

On another note, the weather here has been quiet bad and the wheels have been spinning alot on the icy roads. would this have anything to do with it?

Thanks for any info guys!

With these cars, it's always best to "reboot" - tur the car off completely, then restart. Drive around a bit. Go through a few start-stop cycles (periods of driving a few miles, then periods of no driving for a few hours. Repeat. Basically, a normal daily driving routine). If the fault does not recur after a few days, it may have just been one of those well known E60 "hiccups". However, have the car scanned/checked by your dealer to see if their are any stored fault codes. If the error recurs, a dealer visit is in order ASAP.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to keep an eye on it and if it happens again I'll definetaly have it booked in for BMW to take a look.
So far it's been ok

With that kind of error you should book a time asap - the error code is registrered and needs to be accessed in order to see what's gone wrong. I wouldn't drive happily along waiting for next alert...

This just happened to me tonight. The idrive came up with the same screen your showing then it switched to 4 x4 malfunction then back to transmission fault. I shut the car off and started it again about 30 minutes later and the transmission fault is gone so is the 4 x4 message but now its telling me to service engine soon. Did that happen to you and what did BMW ever say about the transmission fault message? Its been raining hard all day today and i was parked on a steep incline maybe that could have something to do with it. Any advise you have would be great. Thanks.

Hi,

I never had the service engine message which you had.
I had this message come up again a few months ago and took it to BMW, They ran a check on the car and said they couldnt pick anything up

I've left it at that to be honest and it hasn't happened since. It is strange that the weather was bad when it happened to yours too.

Id say get it seen to at BMW to be safe!

Best of luck
