Hello guys ,
Im a new member in this great forum ,,,

i have bmw 545i 04 ,
My transmission at different times has gone into a safe mode into 3rd gear and i get a transmission failure warning. I pull over turn off the the car and restart and it goes back to normal when I restart.
and sometimes i get " transmission overheated "
when i went to the dealership the error code was " ratio monitoring gearbox 3-4 " !
they told that i have to replace the transmission !
i'v done 95k without changing the oil transmission ,,, because they told me i dont have to .. it is a long life oil !
and some shops told me maybe the problem from the valve body ! or maybe programing only ...

I need some recommendations or tips from experience ,

I changed my trans fluid at 60k miles and glad I did. Don't ever, ever believe that BULLSHIT they tell you about "lifetime" fluid. THERE IS NO SUCH THING. You're probably going to need a new transmission. Its possible you can get just a new gearbox but it'll be hard to find a shop willing to do it I'm guessing. Dealers are always going to try and upsell you.

IF you decide to replace your automatic transmission insist on a BMW re-manufactured one ... and at less than 100K miles you may get some consideration from BMW if you ask and you can clearly demonstrate that your car has not been the victim of any abusive driving.

It's a sad commentary but BMW automatic transmissions are a weak link in an otherwise decent drive-train .

I have a 2005 545i with 296,000 miles. I had the same problem. Ended up changing oil, filter/pan and got a pressure regulator kit from ZF transmissions. Now it' almost like driving a new car.

Guys i have the same problem here please i need your support. I just bought a 545i 2004 e60 a week ago with this problem the car on safety mode and the shows transmission fault on the board.. i’ve asked many people and everyone give me an answer.. i was blocked and didnt know what to do
The owner of the car told me that its 70% from the propeller shaft and others told me you have to change the gear.. since im in qatar my car is rare here all of them maximum 530 and hard to find its gear so if there is a solution to fix something inside the gear or change a small part please let me know. Or if another gearbox of 530 or 525 for example fits the 545i i can go ahead and find it. Orhers told me if your gearbox is broken the car doesnt even move so no need to change the whole gearbox.
PLEASE YOUR ASSIST GUYS AND THANK YOU ❤️🙏
