I've only used INPA to check/clear transmission fault codes and monitor solenoid operation while driving.

Kyle, do you remember the steps you used to get to monitoring solenoid operation?

not off of the top of my head, but since I'll be working on the car this weekend I'll connect to my laptop and document how in this thread.

It's nothing fancy, just a series of radio buttons that are shown 'open' or 'shaded' based on which solenoids are open or closed.

Kyle, I have explored INPA before. I don't remember seeing the option for viewing solenoids operation; that's why I was asking.

pcy, per your request:

with INPA open and car running...

-press F6 to select 'E60'
-select 'transmission' from the menu
-double click on 'Gearbox Control Module GS19'
-press F5 'Read Status'
-press F3 'Solenoid Valve'

That will get you to a screen where you can monitor solenoid operation as you drive. FYI, for monitoring transmission temperature just press 'F7 Analog Values' instead of F3 for the last step in the above process.
