I'm purchasing an '07 530xi with 64,500 miles from a private party. What do I need to do to transfer the remaining time of the Certified Pre-owned warranty to me?

As far as I know, nothing. It seems the CPO warranty transfers with ownership of the car. If you prove ownership, any BMW dealer can have them mail you a new pamphlet if my memory serves me correct.

I would call a service advisor at your local BMW dealer to double check this.

I think NYC is right but you need to confirm! A slightly different issue but we bought BMW's Original Owner Extended Warranty on my wife's X5 before selling to a friend. We failed to read all the fine print, bottom line is we (the ones who purchased the warranty) needed to notify the warranty company in writing within 30 days that the car was sold and we wanted to transfer the warranty. It was a BMW product administered by a third-party and they refused to transfer the warranty. To their credit they refunded almost the entire cost of the warranty so that the new owner could buy their own extended warranty. Read the fine print and make sure you understand what the CPO covers and how to it transfers to you...

I bought a 545i still under CPO from a toyota dealership that didnt even realize it was CPO. I did nothing to use the warranty except bring the car in. It's all done by VIN not owner.

I am not saying this is needed to transfer the CPO warranty, but one other thing you should do is fill out the change of owner/address card included in the CPO Plan booklet to advise BMW of the change of ownership in case of recall and safety notifications.

I confirmed with my SA that the CPO is with the car not the owner just like the original warranty.
