Hey gents-

I've had my 04 545 for a few years now and for the past 20K miles or so, my tranny has been having a really difficult time knowing which gear to go into (especially on hills)! If I slowly approach a steep slope or driveway and then start up the hill at a slow speed (like 5 or 10mph) the car will either stay in first and then slam into second or vice versa (drop back into first). I already took it into the dealer once and they (of course and as always) said "could not duplicate the problem" on the service paperwork when i picked it up.

I called my service rep again the other day to discuss it further and he mentioned that it looks like it started around the time that they updated my software for another issue. He's really confident that it's the software because apparently 90% of all the tranny problems they see are the software not telling the tranny when to shift at the correct times.

HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED their tranny in 545 (or 535) hitting a gear really hard to the point where the tranny feels like it's gonna fall-out on the road?

Any comments or experiences would be appreciated - i'm also really nervous about the dealership not being able to replicate the issue since i'm out of warranty and bringing it in this week specifically for the issue.

Thanks in advance.

Regards-

-J

Tranny slam is a fairly well-documented problem on this forum. Try a Google search and I'm sure you'll plenty of useful info. Good Luck.

..okay so I just read through that thread about resetting the tranny.. I've got an '04 545 and don't quite understand (I'm thick headed I suppose) how to perform this procedure without a 'button'. I don't have the comfort access button.
Any help -I'd love to try this (although, I admit, I'm a skeptic of these quick fixes). I think most of these guys are experiencing placebo. I usually leave the dealership from a service thinkng "man she feels sooo smooth".. only to be disappointed within an hour.

Resetting will most likely only be a be a temporary fix. You'll probably need to update the software to the tranny.

As far as the start and stop button. ( I didnt read that thread ) but basically turn on your car, by turning your key to position II, not start, just turn on with accessory power and then press and hold your gas pedel down for 20+ seconds and listen for the tranny reset.

Again make sure your engine is NOT running.
