All,

I recently had my transmission pan, oil and filter changed after I noticed some oil spots on my driveway and very hard shifts. I didn't have time to do it myself so I had to shell out $740 to a local mechanic to complete the work. So far I haven't experienced any tranny slams or slips while driving. Usually when I did a rolling stop and then stepped on the gas again, my tranny would always slip but that has not happened yet.

If you have experienced tranny slips, I would recommend performing this DIY:

The parts are cheap, but it could save you a lot of money in the long run. Good luck!

My issues with transmission slam were only overcome by transmission replacement, no other attempted repair made ANY difference! If this works for others, that's great!!

Just before changing the oil pan and atf of my 520d 2006 model with 130000km done i faced some jerk on the tranny when coming to a full stop. It's been 2 months after and except the jerks i face lots of slam on the changes. i'm quite disappointed because i think it's very early for tranny problems. on monday i will be at the dealer. Should i hope on a lost software of the tranny brain?

I had this ongoing battle with my dealer about the slam/slip, and each time they just said it was a software issue and required programming. They probably reprogrammed my car 3 times, and it still didn't make any difference. Having this repair done has been the only thing to give my car some relief.

I also had my 545i tranny slam fixed by changing the oil pan and filter resulting from a leak. At first there was no change but then the mech also had to reset the tranny computer so it could "re-learn" shifting i guess.

I'm personally scared to try this.

Just recently I had my fluid and filter replaced and that took care of my problems also. My problem stemmed from coasting into red lights. If the light changed to green before I stopped, I would sometimes get the slam. Hasn't happenend since then.
