Sorted - sorry!
The TMC is excellent - offers diversions on traffic congestion which I though was a bit of a gimmick - but on Sunday I was driving along an expressway when it came up and the voice said ROAD CLOSED AHEAD - DO YOU WANT AN ALTERNATIVE ROUTE? To which I clicked YES and it took me around what it said was a caravan that had jacknifed and closed the road - and it joined the road for me 1/2 mile past the closure. Sweet!

You are very lucky to have it. We get audio traffic via Sirius Sat radio, but it's nowhere as cool as what you get, not real timely or accurate either. One of these days I hope we catch up.

Yes you can get it in most EU countries. In France and Belgium, it works very well.
You can locate the source in going into the main info menu in trafic info submenu (or something like that) then select TMC and you wil see the list of radio stations having TMC

My Ride: Arrived 3 June 2005: 2005 545i - Orient Blue, Black interior, Sport, Steptronic, Cold Weather, NAV, Sirius, Logic7, Comfort Seats, Sunshades. What a glorious ride!
When I made my final decision between the 545i and the Acura RL, the Acura's real-time traffic mode thru the NAV was one of the factors that made the decision a bit difficult. Seriously cool technology. In the Acura, the traffic service is provided through the XM radio provider.
The fact that the service was available in limited markets (Columbus not being one of them) moderated the attractiveness a great deal. Not that I would have selected the RL at the end, anyway.

I also think the TMC is great. It takes some believing that there REALLY is congestion ahead, but it works fantastically. As far as the radio station is concerned that sends the info, I think mine is Classic FM. I must admit to not listening to Classic FM but of course I can listen to other stations at the same time.
