I would say that the best bet is to check a few sources and come up with a price that is acceptable for you. No offense, but this is a bad resource for getting a price for a used car. Most of the people here are more informed, and know a lot more than the average customer looking for a used BMW.
1. Check Kelly Blue Book.
2. Check Edmunds.
3. Check Autotrader for cars listed in your area.
4. Compare your car with the ones listed.
5. How long do you want to list it? (Can you wait for your price, or do you want to move it quickly?)
6. Decide on a price that is a little higher than what you want for yours and list it.
Just my 2 cents worth...

Thanks for all the replies I made this post because I know Kelly blue book and edmunds be way off the market value like the example Member "response_surface" Give us.
Post is based on what offer did u get from a dealer or a buyer based on mint condition or better
(dealers laugh at kbb)

yep, when i was waiting for them to come back with the offer i had 22-24k in mind, i bought it only 3 months ago for 26k, i've only put 4k miles on it...... when they said 17.5 my jaw dropped, i really want an S5, but that TIV is just whacked, besides the bmr gets way better fuel economy than the S5.

I use NADA (www.NADA.com) Consumer info on the website for used car pricing lists this:
2005 BMW 5 Series
Sedan 4D 545i (AT/6 Spd.)
Pricing Invoice: MSRP:
$50,960 $55,800
Used Car
Pricing Rough Trade-In Average Trade-In Clean Trade-In Clean Retail
Base Price $14,900 $16,900 $18,575 $22,450
Mileage: 76,000 miles -$450 -$450 -$450 -$450
Sport Package $850 $850 $850 $950
Navigation System $850 $850 $850 $950
TOTAL PRICE $16,150 $18,150 $19,825 $23,900*
So your trade should be worth at least $19k and their avg retail would be $4K higher. A Dealer typically tries to get 10-15% after "reconditioning" a $200 to $400 expense.
Sell it outright and put the money towards the new ride whenever you can....

I just sold my e46 330CI. Checked the edmunds.com - private party was ~$7,800. Dealer offered $5,500 when I bought my 535i. However, I checked the craigslist and did not find any e46 330ci below $10k. Posted an add for $8,500, sold the car next day.
I would say check what is the current market price and adjust accordingly. I don't think you can base the value only on edmunds or kbb..
