-yes, all cars depreciate, but you probably have an idea that not all depreciate at the same rate

Just to give you a little insight on what you might get for your 530xi, I can share my experience.

I have a 2007 530xi, much like yours, but without nav and PDC. It's a manual trannie with sport, prem, cold, Logic7. It has 30k miles. It also has the M-tech kit and style 124 wheels.

I had a real desire to sell it and buy a 335i coupe, so I put it up for sale and received one serious buyer. He was specifically looking for a manual 5-series, and he offered $30,500. That was consistent with what all the internet pricing guides said, but nevertheless I decided to decline the offer. I had been hoping for a grand or two more, and at the end of the day, I still really like the 5.

Trade-in offers were several thousand less than that $30,500.

So, take that for whatever it's worth - obviously different markets will have different values.

so how much would a 08 550 depreciate? and how much would it be worth in 2011?

What's up, people!!!

I'm just bored here and am entertaining the thought of trading my 2006 530Xi (pretty much fully loaded) for a new 535 or 550i Sport with the M-Tech body, also pretty well-equipped.

I'll post my own pros and cons later, but for now I'd like to just see some of your honest opinions. Just one thing to keep in mind: I will most likely want to upgrade to the F10 about a year after its out, regardless of whether I get the 550 or keep mine.

My view is BMWs just get incrementally better. Given the massive depreciation hits on the 550, it might be the bargain of the century. Provided the next great depression isn't cruising towards us.

A new 5er IMHO would be a mistake given the deals on used 550s. Also, the first year E60 had its share of problems and two years later it was generally rock solid. Would the F10 be any different? 32K to 36K can get you a nice used and relatively low mileage 550. Importantly, the used 5er will be less of a depreciation charge and give you plenty of time to research the F10 when it arrives. If its great, sell the E60 and go ahead and get the new 5er.

Heck, I'm looking at used 911s now, closer than ever. A new car is the farthest thing from my mind.

Just my two.
