Houston is a huge sprawling city of freeways and city streets. You generally have two types of road - straight or 90 deg turn! The Texas Hill Country is approx 150 miles from Houston and has excellent roads with lots of bends and elevation changes, unfortunately it's just too far away for a Sunday morning blast!

... but it seems also that your engine hood was not fully closed (passenger's side, so right, euh, no... driver's side)

Damn I miss the UK!

Track days are a blast - anyone who hasn't actually had a crack should.

And yes it makes you drive slow on the road - as you learn if anything goes wrong beyond 2nd gear it gets seriously scary. (I spun the e34 I had at about 50mph and then I was a passenger in my friend 944 Turbo (probably the best track car ever?) when we spun at 90 mph!
