TPMS Question
I have an 04 545i. The car came with a set of "winter" wheels. There are TPMS sensors on these. I see the grey metal valve stem. I also have CIC Nav which was retrofitted before my ownership and I can see TPMS status on the screen. It shows all green. I thought pre 07 did not have TPMS (why do I have sensors??) or does the system still rely on ABS and the winter wheels just happen to have sensors in them doing nothing. I am looking into new wheels and just want to be sure if I need them or not.

The TPMS requires receivers in each wheel well area. So, even though you're seeing the screen in iDrive, without the capability to receive the signals generated by wheel-mounted sensors you are left with the TPM (wheel rotation) function.

Great. Thanks for verifying that. Glad I can go sensor free.
