I got an 04 545i with Sport Package and looking at a set of Beyern wheels with winter tires. On the 04's do I need to purchase the TPMS or is that only on later models??

TPMS is only for 2007+ cars or something like that...
you have FTM which just uses ABS sensors to measure tire rotation speed to check for flat tires.
