hey guys, i tried looking through the forums but couldn't find anything on this. i just installed 20" Maya STM's on my 2008 528i but the place i took the wheels to get mounted and balanced couldn't fit the TPM sensors on. now the TPM warning indicator is always on. is there a way to turn off the TPM all together or is there some kind of an adapter that i can install to get the TPM sensors to fit on the Maya's?

There are two ways of installing the TPM on the wheel.

1. If Maya drills a hole in the inner barrel of the wheel, simply have the TPM installed in the hole.
2. If there is no hole, the TPM can be fastened using a steel strap.

If you are in SoCal, I can refer you to a source.

Honestly if a tire shop cant retrofit your tire pressure sensor on the new wheels then you shouldn't be installing your wheels there... its pretty simple.

I would go with the drilled hole approach.
If done correctly, there should be no marks, just a bigger hole. The sensors and valves will fit nicely into the bigger hole.

I have heard of good results with the strapped sensors, but make sure that the installer has done this before.

The concept of a sensor breaking loose while traveling 80 mph is frightening.

Best regards,
Richard

I would try to avoid drilling into the inner barrel if possible. This can sometimes cause a slow leak because the TPMS does not always sit flush on top the barrel. Have your installer use these instead: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=44723&hl=

And I agree with NY550i, if your shop can't retrofit something as simple as TPMS, get the hell out of there and take your business somewhere else!
