My Ride: 2007 550, premium, sport, nav, bluetooth, satellite, cold, M5/Mtech front bumper and side skirts, matte black kidney grilles, M5 fender grilles, M5 mirrors, euro stickers, 35% tint, 20" Miro 111s (summer), 18" VMR VB3s w/ 10 mm H&R spacers (winter)
Just want to make sure I understand this correctly.... From searching this topic, it sounds like you must have the TPMS installed on each tire or you will get the "TPM Malfunction" error and there is no way to reset it. Is that correct? I recently purchased a CPO '07 550i. Yesterday, I put on my aftermarket winter wheels and tires that I used on my 2004 e60 (without sensors) and promptly got the error message. I believe my 2004 e60 had the "FTM" system? In that car, I just had to reset it, when I put the summer/winter tires on.
So, do I have to learn to live with the error message or is there another way to reset it?
I still have the OEM wheels. Can I take the TPMS off of those and have them installed on the winter wheels/tires? If so, I'm assuming the tires have to be removed from the rim to get to them? Likewise, the after market tires would have to be removed to install them?

My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
My understanding is that it cannot be reset. I wonder if that error message will fail the state inspection.

TPMS transmits amount of air pressure.
Two entire diff systems.
Either ride with "error," or buy used TPMS on forums for about $40 each. New cost might be as much as $70 each plus installation and rebalance. Shops will also gig you an additional $7 to $12 each for grommet for used TPMS. Not sure if new TPMS come with grommets.
If a state inspection problem, you might ber able to cover up idrive screen until you get tpms. Certainly, do not go to dealer for inspection. Also, be careful when garage tries to lift your car without knowing what they are doing (damaging???).
Good luck.

Yeah, you'll have to live with the message unless you buy or remove the sensors from your OEM wheel set-up.

FTM works via calculation of wheel revoluations.

What a nuisance! I'd rather have the old FTM system or nothing at all....
Anyway, thanks for the response and information.
