Default Tow bar fun - towing a Haflinger

I was part of an event this past weekend where a bunch of Steyr Puch Hafliger's gathered to hang out and go for some trail rides in Leavenworth, WA.
A few years ago I imported and installed a Westfalia Tow Bar from PF Jones. It's the stock goose neck tow bar that BMW sells in Europe.
Anyway... Your e60 can tow toys. Here's proof:

Can you post some pictures showing how this OEM hitch mounts to car - that is, close-up of the hitch setup? Thanks.

This was the complete set. The tow bar, the goose neck with ~2 inch ball (50mm), the 7 pin euro socket (Euro Truck importers in Georgia USA sells the plug), TEB7AS generic trailer wiring kit, gloves, and a westfalia vynl bag.

The euro 7 pin trailer socket

TEB7AS - Generic solid state trailer light wiring kit. I did not use the scotchlok/plier tap crimp connectors. I've seen the damage those do to wires and I will not subject myself or any future owner to the horrors those connectors bring. The TEB7AS works great! It can distinguish the difference between the break light and the PWM'd running lights from the same wire and out puts two separate wires for the trailer harness.

The old bumper carrier anchor (in my hand) and the mounted tow bar. Notice that the bolts don't line up. Don't expect to put your stock bumper carrier back on. It's pointless anyway with the tow bar attached.

The full Monty. Goose neck and all. Mounted to e60.

Some minor cutting required. Easy though.

But, that's the point. It's so ultimate that I can tow, still drive like a bat out of hell, and do it in comfort. But, alas, you are right, to each their own.

The tow bar is rated (D-Value) for 11.4kN. The trailer weighs 350 lbs (159kg) and the Hafi weighs 1420 lbs (645kg). Westfalia's website has a fomula (GF*GA*9.81/(GF+GA)*1000) to find the kN of the load. This one was 1.25kN. Well, well, within the limits of the tow bar but this is the heaviest I would haul because the tongue weight becomes too high. The conversion for the tow bar is 200 lbs tongue and 4600lbs tow.

We did both. I-90 was really, really, slow because of the blasting and the road closure near Keechelus Lake. I-90 west bound was backed up from the blast zone, near the pass, all the way to Cle Elum. We saw two foot ball games and one soccer match on the shoulder. We decided to take hwy 2 back and deal with Bellevue traffic instead. The best part was passing Bros in lifted pick-up trucks hauling a trailers with ATVs up the hills and watching them attempt to catch up.
