My Ride: Its a 535d M-Sport... 19" Alloys, Carbon Black, Lots of bits and I love it!
As a newbie, and probably the least technically minded person on the planet, is there any gems that you guys and gals can tell me about my beemer (535a M sport 05) that aren't totally obvious? You know, a button here, a gadget there... that sort of thing? As much as I love driving my car, I also love finding stuff out about it, and having owned it for a year, am still finding new things to play around with!!

OK
There is a secret i-drive menu (It is more of a diagnostic menu than anything else)
1- Press knob down for about 20 seconds
2-turn knob clockwise for 3 ticks
3-turn knob anti-clockwise for 3 ticks
4-turn knob clockwise for 1 tick
5-turn knob anti-clockwise for 1 tick
6-turn knob clockwise for 1 tick
7-Press knob down
Bingo you are in

535a? Or d?
Search the forum for "hidden menu" - it will turn up a few interesting things in terms of gadgetry.

How about this: It is a bimmer not a beemer.
A beemer is a motorcycle.

SMG = Sequential Manual Gearbox. Sporty transmission without a clutch pedal but with a clutch instead of a torque converter...

No, but since the 535d only exists in automatic, whereas the US has now (or will have soon) 535d and 535i...
