Yes, plus it is from three years ago, the engine and the car has been through quite a few changes since then. It would be good to see a new comparision of the LCI models with increased power engines, but I doubt there will be one

Didn't he buy an M5 after slating it ? Also, Clarkson is just a presenter ... it'll be the producers that decide what to show I expect we won't see another 5 series on there until the F10 comes out.

Clarkson continues to have a big influence: it was producer Andy Wilman and Clarkson himself who pitched the revised Top Gear format to the BBC back in 2001. Still, I do get fed up when Clarkson continues failing to understand that the EDC button on an M5 and M6 is for damper control, not the diff...

I think it is not a coincidence that the Stig is in the 545 and Clarkson is in the 535d. If it was the other way round I bet the diesel would be way in front. I mean if BMW UK allowed the diesel to slaughter the 545 in the direct comparison, how will they sell all those that are over there already?

ROTFL, this is another diesel-addict : pls wake up :

0-200 times :

535d : 25s (remapped 21)
545i : 18s

It is a MASSIVE difference, jazzdude .

Not a chance. The 545 shot away from the 535d right from the start and had a significant lead at the first corner which it was never going to lose irrespective of who was driving. Whether it was the Stig or JC, all either driver had to do in both the 535d and 545 was the same - at the start, just mash the pedal to the metal. Would have made no difference who was driving either car - the 535d was never going to catch the 545 from the start, and the 535d doesn't have any advantage over the 545 when the V8 is kept in its sweet spot (545 has nearly 50% more available RPM compared to the 535d so it needs to be driven differently). Don't doubt the 535d is more relaxed, and diesels always feel faster than they are, but the 545 is quicker (and sounds better).
