My old 5, a 1995 525i, 5-speed with approximately 100k was calling for a drive. I needed to make a quick 100 round trip. The good news, the 525i is still very much the same as the day I bought it. No rattles, everything works, smooth shifts and pretty quick. It did take a little adjustment to get used to the steering - my 545i has the sports package w/AS. Braking also took an adjustment. The 1995 still revs to 6k rpm nicely, but not in the same class as my 545i - from under 200hp to over 300hp is a BIG change. The sound system was a giant change, love the Logic7. I didn't miss idrive, although I find it easy to use. Hopefully, in ten years, I can say the same nice things about my 545i, time will tell.

Yeah, the e34 is a classic. I have fond memories of the car, but am a bit jealous that your 525 is working just fine. My '92 could use a complete suspension overhaul and a good quality detail. Oh and if I had to do an extended trip, I'd be worried about it overheating.

A few weeks ago, I saw an e34 M5 at my local gym and had to walk around it and look inside. Can't say I'd do the same with an e60 M5.

My old man, who really isn't the German car type, just bought a '93 525, Juan. It has 130k miles, and he bought it for 4k. Paint is almost perfect, and everything still works just like it should.

He was kind of embarrased to drive a car with so many miles, but I convinced him that some things in life, like BMWs (and Rolexes) actually get better with age. Now, after driving it for several thousand miles, I can't get him out of the thing. Which makes me mad, because I wanted to buy it.
