Hi,

I 've searched the forum trying to find an answer to what tires will fit with 19" M166 on a 530 -04 and the recomendation seems to be 245/35 (front) and 275/30 (back).
But the original M5 is 255/40 and 285/35, so are these to large for a 530?
Or could I fit 245/40 and 275/35 to get a bit more comfort?

Thanks for a great forum!
/Fredrik

Yes, absolutely!

The 166's do already spoil the non M5's ET's so no more disturbance for the chassi is needed.

The standard ET's can be found here.

Sorry to complicate matters, but I have 245/35 & 285/30s on my 166s and they tramline all over the place. The car often feels very squirmy. Granted I have a different suspension on the 550 sport, but still its an awfully low profile set up. These sizes keep the speedo accurate and is why they are recommended by most. Also, I believe some european countries regulate wheel and tire modifications, in which case you would want to stick with the OEM circumference. But since your 530 probably rides higher than my 550, I'd bet you could use the 245/40 front and 275/35 rears without any issues aside from a slightly erroneous speedo (which is set high from the factory anyway). These tires would look just like an M5 and they would give your car that perfect ride height. My 550 with these tires is low to the ground and the tires look a little fast-n-furious. Its a distinct difference from an M5.

Please understand these are just my thoughts and opinions. I am not a tire/wheel expert, nor do I have any hands on experience with the 530 in this regard.

Good luck,
DRP

Welcome from me too!

I also have 245/35 front and 275/30 rear on my M166s. I had to get this set up formally approved and tested by T?V (German authorities) and it all passed without any issues. So its as safe as the other standard E60 wheel/tyre set-ups, which is always nice to know!

For those of you that put the 166's on the 530 (or even the 550 for that matter) did you lower the car as well? Everyone has been telling me that I need to use either Eibach or H&K springs to lower the car an inch or two to compensate for the wheel gap. Do you guys recommend that as well? Is the gap unbearable?

You do not need to lower with springs. It's merely cosmetics. The gap might not bother you as much as it does others. There are plenty of e60s with 166s that are not lowered.

I would say stay with the recommended tire size 245/35/19 and 275/30/19.

I didn't lower mine and i think it looks great but that just my opinion

Yep, stick to the recommended sizes. You don't need to lower it when you do so because you keep the overall dimensions the same as OEM. If you get higher profile tires and assuming they actually fit then you'd need to lower the car.
