Not sure what inspections are like in MS but in many areas tires are checked carefully and that sidewall damage would probably result in a failure.

I hit a curb while turning. Did not damage the wheel at all, but, took a scoop out of the tire. Holding air fine. I would say the scoop is about the size of a quarter. Can this be repaired or is it time to get a new tire?
Coincidentally, I just got an email from the guy who took over the lease on my old 530xi. He told me that the rear right tire blew out on him last night.

As I was thinking about how this might have happened, I remembered that I had that same tire patched last year at my dealership after I got a screw stuck in there, near the outer edge of the tread. I remember wondering if that was a risky area for a patch, but my dealership thought it'd be ok, and they patched it from the inside using one of those pull-though rubber plugs.

My guy didn't say how it blew out or how fast he was going or that he even noticed the plug, but I am pretty certain it wasn't a coincidence. I know he didn't damage the rim, so it couldn't have been too fast. These Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires only had about 5000 miles on them in April and looked brand new......so you NEVER KNOW! He's not going to be happy about the $300 replacement cost.

I'd replace that tire of yours!

I'm surprised that the dealership plugged that tire. I know my dealership wouldn't have repaired it -- even if it was in the middle of the tread -- because it can affect the tire's speed rating...

Have a look here for more information about speed ratings and tire repairs:
