Fellas,

I'm about to pickup a set of OEM 124 wheels in a few days to use as winters. The rims are mounted on 255/40/18 tires all around. I would like to get a general consensus if they will rub or not. The seller did mention that he gets a slight rub only if he drops in a bad pot hole, but nothing crazy. The thing is I don't want to buy and then rubbing is so bad, I have to spend more cash on another set of tires.

My car is a 2008 with the sport package.

Your thoughts is greatly appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge Oem 124s are a staggered setup.

Your tires sizes should be

245/40R-18 (front)
275/35R-18 (rear)

I know the OEM tire spec for the 124, but the seller went another route with his choice of tires. That's why I wanted to know if anyone else is, or have ran 255/40/18, and how bad was the rubbing if any.

Thanks for replying though.

Anything wider than 245's up front is going to rub.

Well I only got one reply prior to yours from the many views... I already picked them up and will be testing this theory

The actual difference in diameter and width is very small ... I can't imagine that the clearance is that tight. Check the tire dimensions here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

You can check OEM setup in REALOEM. My car came stock with type 123's for sport package. I would tell you stay away from 124's as they're infamous for cracking...yes the rim itself. I still have my 123's and they were 245/40/18 all the way around and I do not believe there were any differences in offset...and we're talking about a sport package. Then again I am speaking about a 2004 530 so things may be different.
As a rule, I'd stay away from 124's

Make sure they are not for X drive is your car is X drive and vice versa.

Just make sure the wheels you are buying are not XI then. Maybe some guy is trying to get out of them real quick. These things happen.
