tire recommendations

Hello, I currently have 19/35/275 rear and 19/40/245 front (m6 Wheels) on my 5er. I wanna put 19/40/285 on rear... would that work or would it rub? anyone done this? What tire size u use or ur 19' rims? My rear tires only lasted me for 15k miles and i wonder if wider tires last longer?

Recommended size 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear....I also have another set of 285/30/19 on rear ....all worked for me with no rubbing.

I'm running on stock sports suspension. No fender roll, no drop.

F: 245/35/19 (19 x 8.5 et15)
R: 285/30/19 (19 x 11.0 et33)

** No rubbing issues.

I'd assume that the tire wear would all depend on the UTQG rating and driving habits. You can always go for higher treadwear tires like the Continental ExtremeContact DWS - UTQG: 540. This should last longer than 15k for sure. I believe those have good ratings too. I'll be considering those next. Hankooks V12s are awesome tires but I'm also going to get a set that will last longer.

You can go 285 or even 295s on the rear, usually its the fronts that cause the rubbing. A wider tire doesnt usually play a factor in tire wear, the factors that contribute the most are the tire wear rating (which varies manufacturer to manufacturer), driving habits, and geometry of your suspension set up (ie camber, alignment, and tire inflation, etc.) A harder rubber compound tire generally lasts longer than a softer compound, but a softer compound tire will usually grip the road better.

BMW's are notorious for negative rear camber, especially RWD models, so you can go as wide as you like it wont matter if the insides of your tire are getting eaten up. You can be down to the wear bars on the inside and still have like 80% tread depth on the outsides

When shopping for tires, look at the tire wear ratings, tread depth, and check out some of the reviews of that specific tire and that will help you decide.

Sorry but I think a 40 series may look goofy as hell. The size tire you are thinking of is really tall at 27.8" It is so tall that it may set of error codes as well. My factory 275/35 18s are 25.6" That over two inch difference!

So the recommended tire size is 275/35/19 and you wanna go with 285/40/19? The tire you wanna change to is wider, and it's also taller at the same time. The "35" or "40" is the ratio of the width. So if you wanna fit 285, I guess you should go with 285/30/19. That should be pretty close to the recommended size.

I have the above set up (275/30 rear and 245/35 fronts) and my car is lowered and have no rubbing issues. As mentioned however you can put 285's on the rears, which is what I will do on my next tire change, which will give you about a 1/2" wider tire with about only a 1/4" tire diameter change.

Honestly I couldnt give you a definite answer there, but I would guess it should fit, but a 285/35 is over 5% difference tire diameter than factory spec, so I am not sure why you would want to go with that kind of increase. The idea of plus sizing is to keep the same diameter of tire, or very close to it so it doesnt affect other areas of the factory specs like gear ratios, etc.

Maybe some others would chime in.
