You can also tell by the tire valves. If it is a rubber one - no special equipment, FTM thru iDrive. Check the pressure in all tires and you will see which is low. I just went through this....I had a screw in my run-flat, but all tires seemed ok; however, the pressure in one tire was zero. As mentioned above, afterwards make sure you reset the FTM in i-Drive.
I put some Air in the tires but I dont know how to reset the light, I dont keep the manual in the car, so I guess i have some reading to do when i get home.

Reset = With the car running and in Park, press iDrive knob down to get to car menu. There you will see an option like Vehicle/Tires. Scroll to that and press the iDrive knob. You will see FTM, select that and there you will see the Reset option. Once you do this the iDrive will say Initializing. You must then drive the car for a while for the system to reset. Best to use a long stretch of open road rather than stop and go traffic. Do it before you leave for your drive home, should be done by the time you get there...

It should be fine but I have had mine take 10 minutes or more to reset, so be patient!

Even if it's not enough, I think the car will continue to reset the system the next time you drive it. In other words, just reset it then drive normally. The status will change from 'initiailizing' to 'active' once it's been able to finish the process successfully...

Would you happen to know how to reset an LCI car that does not have LCI wheels? I just put snows on (they were from my 06 530--on wheels--in good condition). FTM now will not initialize--I assume because the old wheels don't have the sensors that the new wheels do. I'd just as soon deactivate FTM for the season. I'm an old fashioned guy--I check my tire pressure once a month with a gauge (remember them?). Do you think that's possible?

Problem is that you don't have the FTM system, you have the TPMS, which has a sensor in each wheel. When you switched to the snows from the old 530, they don't have the required sensors so you can't initialize the system. Sorry, don't know of anyway to deactivate but the sensors are not too expensive, problem is they go on the inside, so all four tires will have to be remounted to get them installed. Never seen this in a car, are you getting a warning message or is it just that the system won't initialize?

I'm getting a warning message: TPM Malfunction!
If there's no way to deactivate the system I'll have to get the dealer to install the sensors. Thanks for the info.

You needn't go to the dealer. You can buy the sensors alone and have any shop you trust remove the tires, install the sensors, and remount and balance the tires.

A set of sensors will cost about $170, plus the cost to remount the tires. This may save you a few bucks.
