I went to re-inflate my tires because it droped the pressure a little bit so when i arrived, a guy asked me if i have air in the tires or N2 (azot) or smth like that. I said whaat? i didn't know n2 is used for inflating the tires. My car is almost 2 months old and i would like to correct the tire pressure but i don't know what bmw has put in my RF Goodyear tires. I said to the guy that i don't know and he said that the best way is to dezinflate all the tires and then put n2 in them.
Now i ask u, does it worth it? Is it better n2 then regular air? what are the advantages?

Thank you!

It is said that N2 does not expand when your tyres heat up therefore ensuring that your PSI is almost always stable. I have tried using it once in my previous ride, but did not realise any difference. Maybe its because I do not go to the track where it is said to be most effective.

Filling up with N2 costs and you are not allowed to mix with normal air obtained from the pumps. If you do so, then its useless.

Edlee has it right ...

Race car tires are typically filled with pure nitrogen. The benfits are:

1) nitrogen provides a more stable pressure as oxygen leaks faster than nitrogen (air = 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% other stuff). Also, nitrogen does not hold any moisture so a tire will expand less as it heats up during a race

2) oxygen breaks down rubber (oxidation) over time while nitrogen is inert, which extends tire life

Niether of these benefits would be noticable at all to us daily drivers.
