I am placing an order for a 2009 535xi - Im getting the 18" Light-alloy wheels Star Spoke (style124) with mixed run-flat perf. tires

I plan to swap the RFTs for Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position (Ultra High Performance All-Season) - as I live in Boston I dont like to swap tires for winters and also want to avoid the harsh ride -

any comments? anyone out there with the mixed RFTs that come stock and like them??

I had a 2007 530xi prior to my current car. The Bridgestones sucked in the winter with snow, even with the AWD. My car came stock with the 18" OEM Sport wheels too. I ended up putting Blizzak LM-25's on the 18's (245/40/18) and they were amazing! I called my car the Audi Killer when I had the snowies on. Hahahaha! You couldn't make the car spin, unless you took DSC off, in a snow storm. I then purchased the 19" staggered set-up for Spring/Summer/Fall.

I suggest at least doing 2 sets of wheels/tires. It's worth it.

Although I have never lived in Boston, I somehow doubt that the choice of High Perf All-Seasons is the best choice for control and handling in a Boston winter. All Seasons are NOT snow tires, and I would think one would need snow tires in Boston. IMO All-Seasons should be called "no-seasons".

Maybe I am wrong??

well first of all if you get this tire instead of strict snow tires you dont have to change them after winter. i lived in boston so i know what it is like. You will like re960as pole position than other tires.

i had re960as pole for honda accord and goodyear assurance in Boston and when we had huge storm in 2005, i was able to pound through snow like a champ( even though i know for fact that fwd has better traction than rwd).

go to NTB or tire shop in Route 1 ( i think it is direct tire) before dedham, across from toys r us. they might be able to help you ..

You might want to look at the Bridgestone Turanza with Serenity. I just ordered a set for my 530xi. They get great reviews on Tire Rack as well as some other places I looked. I have a set of Nokina snow's on a second set of wheels that I run in the Winter but I like to have a nice touring tire for the late fall and early spring. I live in upstate NY so I know the weather you guys get in Boston.

I'd suggest you get a new set of rims+tire combo, so you can ride in style for the winter!

I went with 19" Miro 346s wrapped with Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S, 245/35/19 all around!

but then again...I live in NYC, we don't really get THAT much snow.

Depending on your driving habits, the sport all seasons should be fine.

In my e46, I had Pirelli PZero Nero (M&S). The tread pattern is sporty but the rubber compound becomes soft enough in the winter. I thought they were acceptable for highway driving and main arterial streets when it was snowing.

I just purchased a set of wheels and snows for the winter. However, I was thinking of ditching the run flats on my car and going the sport all season route considering I don't even drive to work and if there is heavy snow, I just stay home.

However, the RFT's are brand new so I decided to get a dedicated winter setup.
