I want to get the windows on my 08 550 done. [carbon black] the guy at the tint shop tells me that his stuff gives off a gray color which is what I want. But when I look at it , it sure looks greenish Is there a certain type of film that I should be looking for? Also have a gray/black mini/s I would like done.

Id say find another tint shop to see other options. we recommend getting ceramic tint mainly for blocking the heat. but for non-ceramic there usually is an option between gray and charcoal, or something like that.

First make sure your shop sells 3M then Go to the 3M website and look up automotive tint. (Disclaimer: There are other great brands out there like huper-optik among some others but I like 3M, and the great brands are of course significantly outweighed by crappy brands that will fade and discolor. Oh and by the way 3M offers lifetime warranty against fading, discoloring, and every thermal performance) back to the 3M website -> All of there products will be there. They have 4 types of tint and I ranked them best to worst here Crystilline -> ceramic -> carbon -> cheap stuff. (More side info: The tint shop I went to had demos of each film set up with heat lamps and it was very helpful in making my decision. The Crystalline is unreal at thermal rejection but only goes to 40% tint. Too light for me) Each product has a different availability of tint the whole product line ranges from 5%-90% but Crystaline only goes as dark as 40% I got that on my sunroof and I got 20% carbon the rest of the way around on my jet black e60. I love it. I came from a pickup where in GA all back windows are fair game for as dark as you want. So I personally want it darker but I'm illegal as is and don't want to draw too much attention. I'm not doing anything illegal just have sensitive eyes and skin and my belongings are more protected from prying eyes esp with the BMW windshield screen up. I recommend a nice windshield screen (BMW makes a perfect one for our e60's for $50, just awesome minus the absurd BMW logo) 2000% if you care about keeping in car temps down when it is outside. Will save ALL interior parts. I promise.

the shops in my area use solar shield or llumar which I think I like best , I think I should find a 3m dealer and look at theirs, on the website they had not only what you explained to me but FX performance HP performance and a couple of others , had no idea there was so much out their. Thanks

Stay away from the carbon stuff, it can be very cloudy depending on the time of day.

My windows were done in this film Greystone "cars equipped with rear window antennas for radio, satellite and/or GPS, Greystone’s non-conductive design will not interfere with these types of electronic systems."
3M is awesome film as well but it a bit more expensive.
