just purchased a used 2005 with under 30,000 miles, and it has a pretty loud "ticking" noise under the car, presumably a minor exhaust leak. Is this common???? Nearest dealer is an hour a way, so haven't made it in for service yet.

Thanks

ticking when you drive or ticking when you are parked/car off?

Gene is correct. If ticking is after car is shut down, it is the exhaust system cooling off and the metal contracting a bit in the process. It is normal. If you here it while you are driving, it could be the Vanos system which soma have had problems with in the past.

sorry, car running at idle. You hear it outside of the car, pretty much dead in the middle. Hope to get it into BMW sometime soon, but wondered if there are any known issues.

Thanks
