sometimes when i turn on the AC especially at a low level, i'll get a rattling or ticking noise from the front passanger side of the dash. it goes away immediately when i turn the fan off.

could the filter need cleaning?

Does it come from the vents, do you think?
I swear mine's got a leaf or something in it.

i'm not sure. it's so hard to pinpoint. i'm afraid to take it in to the dealer and pay the $50 deposit because it comes and goes.

Experienced the same problem on one of the pre-owned e60's I was test driving - quite irritating. It was exactly as you described, audible when the Fan was on but nothing when the fan was off. Dealership couldn't easily identify the problem, so they had to investigate further - i didn't stay for the fun.

No ticking / rattling here but my AC at half-blast isn't constant and smooth. It kinda blurts a bit, if that's a way to describe it....
