My Ride: 2007 Mercedes Benz e63 AMG
I was wondering if anyone else's car "ticks" when they turn it off - especially after a high revving spirited session on the roads? I presume its the sound of the oil hitting the oil pan or something (I'm not a mechanical car guy...) and it only happens when I've been really revving the engine and doing some hard driving.
But, after 16k miles, its a little odd to me.
Just curious what everyone else thought...

happens to all cars. dont know the technical way of explaining it but yes its normal and it happens in any car after being driven for a while. the noise is just some of the metal parts of the car cooling down.

As tiberivs noted, perfectly normal. It is simpy the metal parts of the car cooling down, particularly the exhaust system. As the metal cools, it contracts a bit and that is the ticking sound we hear. My old 545 did it and so does my new 550.

I've only had one other car that was "high revving", so to speak - an Infiniti, and it didnt tick.
I wasnt concerned, just more curious. I was pretty confident BMW's can handle it.
I appreciate the thoughts.

My Ride: 07' 550i, Jet Black, Sport Pack, Comfort seats, Logic 7, PDC, Nav/Sat - stock for now
I also wondered if that was a problem, but it seems to bee normal. My question is when I use the steptronic mode and go through the gears and push the car more than usual, I get a little bit of a burning smell when I park it in my garage. Almost the same smell as if you were hard on a clutch. Any thoughts on this ?
