There is a slight "thud thud" coming from around the Oil filter area in my E60 2006 530d. I can only hear it when the engine idles. It has been there for the last month or so on and off. It sounds like it could be the filter moving up and down,,,,, or maybe a pump on the way out???

Anyone come across this before or any idea what it could be?

Clueless on diesel. If it wasn't diesel I'd say check your serpentine belt perhaps its frayed.

Thanks for the replies

Is this a possible diy? Is the chain visible or do i need to go disassembling to find it?

You need to disasembly some parts before you can reach it.
These will help you: http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E6...browse/engine/
Watch the lubrication system (and maybe the valve train with its chains).

I had a closer listen to it and it's more like a "squelch squelch" sound like a rubber piston pump - It doesn't sound like a chain slipping

Anyone any other ideas?

The car runs fine (at the moment)

This sound only starts when the engine reaches optimum temperature --

Is it a Coolant pump?
