I got this from browsing throttle response lags and ran into this site...

http://bimmerinfo.com/throttlereset.htm

Over time your BMW e46 wil adapt to your driving style. Can you remember the days when your car would feel fast and spirited and jump when you touched the peddle? Have you lost that feeling? Well, it's not totally your fault. It's fun to go fast, but who doesn't like to get 27-28 Mpg? You can change back to a default setting if you wish.

Here's the steps for an e46. They are simple and easy to follow.

First, with the key removed, sit in the driver's seat and insert the key.
Turn the key to position "2". Position "2" is one position before the car engages and starts.
Wait 10 seconds and then turn the key back to position "0", which is the initial position.
Once again wait 10 seconds and then start the car up.
You should now have your throttle response reset and your driving pattern from this point on
will dictate how your throttle response adapts.

Over time your throttle response will once again become lacking and another reset will need
to be performed. It is recommended that this be performed every 3-6 months if you feel the
need to have your spirited car back.
I'm going to see if this works on my E60. Has anyone tried it before?

Yes it works but if I remember it right, the gas pedal should be pressed down while waiting for that 10 second. I may be wrong though.

The "Neat Tricks" thread has some recent stuff on this. My key doesn't have positions I don't think, just pushed in or not.

Alas though, I have a manual transmission and the throttle is kick ass all of the time.

ETA: Well carp, I see you've posted in there already. Is this different than the transmission reset? Can't imagine it'd do anything to mine anyway.

You should be able to select positions 1 and 2 by simply pressing your Start button with the brake pedal NOT depressed. Without brake pedal pushed, first press is position 1, second press is position 2. Third press should be OFF.

This is for throttle adaption sequence. The above is for E46 but will work with the E60 having M54 engine too. You do not need to press the pedal this is for EGS adaption. I don't know about N52 or much about the start/stop button. I would think that one push is for position one and 2nd is for 2.
