Throttle limiter???

My Ride: 2005 545i, Orient Blue, Black Interior, Sport Package, Satellite
OK, so now that i'm well out of the break-in period and becoming more comfortable with the excessive, over-kill HP in my 545i, I decided to finally try to floor and hold the gas at full throttle from a dead stop over the weekend.
The engine rev'd up quickly and the car flew off the line, but something seemed to keep the drive train from fully delivering the power to the wheels... the engine stayed rev'd high while the power came on nearly, but not quite, at full force.
I wouldn't call this a problem, because like I said the car just flew off the line, and I really don't feel like I need to go this fast, ever, but it did feel like there was more HP there that wasn't being fully utilized.
Is this DSC/DTC or some other kind of limiter/control function that is supposed to come on? If a wheel was beginning to spin slightly, would this kick-in?

Could be traction control, what was the condition of the road like
Did you have a flashing yellow simbol in the instrument cluster ? ( means DSC is working )

1. Unless you put steptronic into the Sport mode the car starts in the 3rd gear.
2. For better acceleration turn off DSC.

[/quote]Tried again today. This time, however, even though i was in sport mode, I'm not certain that it started in first gear. I was on a very slight downhill grade and wasn't at a complete dead stop-- very slightly rolling. No DSC/DTC light illuminated, I had DSC/DTC on and the transmission was in sport mode. It sped off the line with no hesitation or lag however, it didn't have the same fast rev off the line. On my first attempt, I'm guessing the lag came in in the 1st to 2nd gear shift.
This is tricky stuff. It's hard for me to find many places to test this due to the amount of traffic and it seems like the conditions have to be just so (flat, dead stop in sport mode) to get the transmission to start in 1st gear.... I'll keep trying.

Mine always starts in 1st in regular mode--I think--no worse than 2nd. I'll check more carefully--could be 2nd as one poster indicates. If so, it steps down quickly to 1st if one desires. The only time mine starts in 3rd is in sport mode after manual shifting has been engaged. It forces itself to downshift to 3rd, and no lower, after manual shifting has been engaged.

And, potentially better acceleration is possible with both DSC and DTC off. I usually drive this way if I am not doing curves or am not on a high speed road--freeway or highway. If you turn both off, then don't forget and do something for which you will need saving--because all stability control is off once DTC is turned off.
