Default Thoughts on Drivers side power mirror issue....

Posted a week or so ago about my mirror folding all the way out every time I turn off the car and leave it for 5 minutes. Tried the manual reset described here many times to no avail. Went to dealer, s/a had tech try to reset or re-learn its home position with scanner to no avail either. Said mirror needs replacing. So here is where I am...

Took it apart last night and there is no way to access the mirror motor unless I remove the drivers door panel and actually remove the mirror itself. I was hoping removing the glass and the outer cover would give me some sort of access, however that was not the case.

Here's my thought/question. If I walk up to my car and the mirror hasn't swung forward yet as soon as I open the door it will begin moving. If I catch it and stop it from moving the motor will still continue running until it catches one of the grooves and I use tension to stop it. My thought is maybe if I stop it when its popped into place in roughly the correct position, what if I disconnected the battery for 20 minutes? Does anyone think that that may help it relearn its home position?

Such a stupid small issue but so irritating....
