I have a July 2005 built E60 without Nav. MP3 function is not capable on my car even with the CIP updated. I know that all E60 without Nav that are built after Sep 2005 can play MP3 on the regular deck. So I tried my luck and sent an email to BMW Canada and complained about why my car couldn't play MP3 but the latter production cars can play.... Then BMW Canada get back to me and said they will change the existing CD deck on my car to a newer model so I can play MP3 without any charge. My car will go into the dealership after Xmas to get the job done. So for all of you who doesn't have Nav but wants MP3 function, it's worth a try to make a complaint to the BMW head office of your country and see if you can get what I'm getting too. Hope this can help.

Hi Bambi,

Lucky you! AFAIK, those who opted for Professinal Radio (Option 663) will have their deck come with MP3 decoders.

And if you need not pay for it, now, thats one sure way for your dealership to pamper their customer!!

UK New cars with Business spec CD still DONT HAVE the MP3 feature. BMW want a ?300 upgrade to professional for this. I dont think you will get that fro free. As far as I can tell, north american cars dont get the business stereo at all.

cheers

I know Professional radio come with two tuners for improved reception in build up areas, when the business radio comes with just 1 tuner. There maybe more differences though

I always thought the dual tuners simply allowed the "all stations" feature to work and that they had nothing to do with improved reception, etc. "Improved reception" sounds like something a salesperson at the dealership would say when asked why there are two tuners...

Actually, the feature is what Philips called "antenna diversity" back in the late 1980s, when they pioneered the concept. The idea is that as FM signals are notoriously sensitive to even small differences in physical position of the aerial (the usual stuff where in order to listen to the radio station you want you need to move the aerial wire and hold it in a particularly inconvenient place), having two aerials and first stage tuners and some "intelligence" in the radio to select the best signal would result in better reception particularly with weak signals. Then along came RDS - EON which requires two tuners to work properly anyway, so both you and the salesperson are right in this case
