My Ride: 2006 550i sport package, manual, black on black w/ anthracite trim, pdc, logic 7, cold weather pkg.
Has anyone gone from the E39 M5 to the E60? Would like to hear your opinions.
The 2003 seems to have all the bells and whistles that my E60 has
plus a better engine, handling, and a LSD.
After previously owning an E46 M3 and now driving the E60 for over 2 years
I realize that I miss the power and handling of an M car but the E60 M5 is
out of my price range at the moment.

Hi, I can't answer you question but I was wondering do you have any pics of your engine bay with the the Dinan CAI? I haven't been able to find any of a 550 installed and have been thinking of doing this.

I debated this about six months ago. The extra maintnance on the M finally steered me away, plus the fact that it is an older vehicle. Things will begin to need attention compared to your e60. If you can stand the maintnance then go for it. Nothing but praise for the e39 M5 by most enthusiast.

Id stick with the e60. E39 is already looking too old nowadays. Even tho you have 550 i think that's just enought amount of power under your hood.
If you really want to have and lots of power id buy e60 M5 later when I ''you'' have enought money for it..
E60 just look so nice comparing to older model..

Picture quality isn't good on my blackberry and its very dirty but you'll get the idea.
Its still 45 degrees up here so I haven't done the spring detail yet.

I debated this a while back when my dealer took a e39 M5 on trade. I ended up deciding against it because the e60 body style is much more up to date looking. In my opinion I would stick with the 550i, nicer looking and lower maintenance costs.

i thought about it seriously before i got my current e60 ( my 2nd ) a dealer near me was selling a mint 03 m5 with only 33k miles. i'm glad i didn't, the e39 looks very dated now and the running costs just too steep on an m5

Thanks for the pic, for some reason I was thinking it was 2 airboxes. Looking at your pic and the Dinan website, it makes sense now. Anyway thanks again!
