I'm contemplating flipping my car to get something a bit newer ...
I've seen a lot of 2006 3 series around for 18-20K and I think I can get around that much for what I have now.
Have any of you all privately sold cars? This is my first car and I'm not real sure what is involved in it?...what are the risks or precautions I take in order to make a good sale.
Any chiming in would be great!
Thanks.

Advertise on Autotrader or craigslist they seem to get more traffic.
Google the prospective buyer's name. I usually feel comfortable if their name is attached to a good job. On the other hand, there may be an alert against him/her.
Accept only a certified check or wire transfer. Ask them to fax you a copy of the check, before delivery of the car, and a copy of the business card of their loan officer, so that you can call the bank to verify it.

I don't trade in cars, so I sell mine privately all the time.
