Hello all,

I am currently driving a 2000 E46 325I. I love that car and I am thinking of buying a 2004-2006 5 series likely a 530i. For the current owners have you all been pretty happy with it?..I see mostly reported problems on this forum (and others)... Aside from the battery issues any other major issues. Last question do you think going for a 2004-2005 would be to old? From what I have seen there are allot in fairly good shape..some with higher mileage some not. I pretty good with cars..and can probably handle a fair amount of DIY as long as it is not to major

Thanks hope to be part of the e60 family soon

2004...first production year. Typically, I wouldn't get the first year of a model. There may be bugs to work out. However, there or members here that are happy with their 2004 530. Watch out for mpm in the trunk by the spare tire which was later relocated to the side of the car. (one of the earlier production bugs). 2006 N52 engine seems bulletproof.

My recommendation is to forget the 04-05 cars and look for an 06-07. Actually, you'll be MUCH better off with an LCI car from 08 and up, but you may be priced out of that sector if you're going by strict budget. And whatever you do, under any circumstances, don't ever get a BMW without a Sport Pack!!!

I own a 2004 530i since a year now and I definitly happy of my purchase !! I have no issue ! When I bought it, I did all the minor reparation and also did preventive maintenance ! The only thing that I had to change since I have it, it's the wiper motor that cost me 700$ with labor in my indy, 50$ for my valve cover gasket and I will change the dead battery this spring when I get the car out, ( I think the battery never has been changed )

So, I think that you can have bugs and problems with a 2004 as you can have it with a 2010 model, it's all dependind on how the owner take care of his car !

Thanks Guys for the advice, I will look for a 06-07. May even consider a 08 if the price is right
