I like thier free maintenance! I hope they dont... but if they do not that big of a deal... I never was able to really take advantage of it... all i get are wiper blades and like 2 oil changes... not much cash savings there... at least for me

My dealer does the oil changes at 12k but when it comes to the brakes, when my wifes brake pad indicator went off, they don't just replace the pads but also the rotors. When I asked why replace the rotors at 20,000 miles, they replyed that they never resurface the rotors, just replace and, that every brake pad service they do includes new rotors. Thats expensive and a good part of the free maintenance plan.

Has that been everyones experience? Has anyone resurfaced rotors ? I hope I don't have to pay for new rotors when its my responsibility to pay for new brake pads.

Modern BMWs (as well as many other vehicles today) don't have enough `meat' on the rotors to resurface them.

How long do the brakes generally last for?

I love the "Free" maintenace program!

I have one E46 with 110K on the clock and it has never used a quart of oil and has receieved only the maintenance as indicated by the service indicator. I have another with 36K it too is still under the program and all is well!

Yes, since rotors on BMW's are never turned, they do replace them in the program routinely.

Having owned MB and Audi in the past, I think they are making a huge mistake, as this allows BMW to not only differentiate on the basis of driving experience, but now on service integrity and apparent manufacturers faith in their own build quality!

This maintenmance program when coupled with an excellent dealer service department is a wonderful thing!

Precisely why you should purchase not based solely upon initial purchase price, but factor in the service reputation of your dealer as well. Yes, you can have your BMW serviced at any BMW dealer for the maintenance, but it is wise to build a relationship with your dealer, it will pay you dividends going forward!

My wifes 2003 325xi has about 22,000 miles and needed the fronts done under the service plan. She isn't a heavy braker. Thats not real good on brakes.

My 4 Runner didnt need brakes until 75,000 miles but thats a truck with over enginneered brakes. And they surfaced the roters and its good for another 80,000 miles.

Whats everybodys experience on brakes??????? Also did you need new rotors every time??

I can't guess if BMW will drop the program. Personally, I hope not. There is no free lunch, but it is nice to pay for the maintenance as part of the cost of the car. It really used to hurt when we would go in for Lexus maintenance--even though the free food and drinks and Lexus loaners were far better. I really think the program feels very good for the customer--at least it does to me.

How much were you hurting each time you came out of the Lexus dealer?

Ya it feels good to know that for 4 years I dont have to fork out a penny if i didnt want to.

Oh BTW I never gotten anything less than a BMW as a loner... a lot of 325s but that was more my choice... at the dealer i goto we get to chose from X5, X3, E90 325, E46 330xi, E60 525, MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper S Monte Carlo Edition. So the loner cars FAR exceed my expectation!

So far I've taken 325s E46 and E90s E60 525 and the MCS Monte Carlo Edition never cared for the X3 nor X5.

It seems like every time we took the Lexus in it was $500 to $1,000 for service/maintenance. I like my dealer a lot, but we get inexpensive rentals from Avis.
