What are some of the things that break down after the warranty is over?
How much is it cost you if you did or did not have extended warranty?
I'm wondering of a bumper to bumper warranty is worth it or a craps shoot?

Thanks,

Your question is impossible to answer.

Anything could break. Good indy. mech. is a must to know. It can save your alot of money on any repairs.

Warranties are hit or miss and you really need to do alot of home work on them and understand what is and isn't covered. Good news (well maybe bad news) is chances are with a BMW you'll at least get to use it once and a good chance more if its something like 4yrs-5yrs/80K more or whatever from date of purchase of the warranty.

How many miles do you have on your car now? How many miles do you drive on an annual basis? How long do you plan on keeping the car?

I'd like to know too. My car currently has 26000 miles and is an 06. I'm hoping it will be reliable for the next few years since everything is working well now. I drive under 10000 miles a year.

I can't give you any perspective from an E60 because mine has barely 40K, but in my old E36, I went about 3.5 years without warranty and from 100K to 138K I had the following repairs:

Radiator
A/C / heat blower
Wire harness in trunk wore off and could not lock/unlock doors.
Brake light socket
Window regulator.

All in all, not bad. About $3,000 total cost. Much cheaper than new car payments.

My current E46 has been out of warranty about 11 months. Currently has 105K miles and so far, $0 in repairs. In 500 miles, I plan to do the following preventive repairs:

Water pump
Thermostat
Serpentine belt
Radiator expansion tank
Fuel pump

The above are known problems with E46 and it's not a question of IF it will need those repair, but WHEN. Better do them now and not risk being stranded somewhere.

Good luck. I hope you get better answers than mine.

You forgot about radiator for your E46, they usually fail just like on any other newer BMW because they're made of recycled plastic

Needed a new Radiator, I had the passenger restraint malfunction had to have the seat pad replaced, and brush guards replaced. All over 50k but had the extended warranty cover everything at Luxury Motors Las Vegas.
