Taking my 2004 530i in for service on Friday and I also mentioned to dealer problem with excessive creaking. I'm not sure if it's the door seals or the window seals. Seems I've read stuff about both here on this forum. What I don't want is the dealer to just lubercate them and tell me all is well. ANyone know if there's a TSB out about this creaking noise? Sorry for sounding so newbie-ish!

BTW should I ask for an update on the software or will they do it as a matter of course?

My car is doing the same thing; I think it's the window seal. I came to this conclusion by letting the window down a fraction (window still close, but not tight) and the noise stop. Try it!

That means it the door seal. With the window don a bit, it puts less pressure againts the body

I've been fortunate in that I've had no issues which have required a trip to the dealer. When the first visit happens, do they, along with the service needed, automatically do a software update, or do you have to request it? My car was built in early December, so I'm surely several software updates long past.

Thanks for the TSB. At first my SA said she knew nothing about the "new" door seals. I faxed her the bulletin from this forum and all of a sudden she knows about it. Now she says the new door seals are on back order! Slowly but surely!

Yeah, I brought my car in over a month and 1/2 ago and put door seals on the list. Still no call from the S.A. to tell me that they are in.

Really depends. If there is no issue reported by you and there is no outstanding recall/bulliten, they will not update the software. When I brought my car in for the cracked headlight brackets back in January, the computer showed the emissions recall outstanding for my car and they did the software update then. When I was in for my oil change last week, they would not even book the appt. until they checked the computer to see if it would be a simple oil change or if there were other outstanding issue (recalls) to deal with. Most software update are done based on the customer complaining about a specific issue which they know will be solved by an update. I have been having the transmission "slam" for some time and am bring the car in tomorrow for the new doors seals and an update for the tranny issue.
