Using the outlet for my daughters DVD player and works great. I don't think it is smaller.

US spec cars have power outlets in the passenger footwell under the glove box, two in the rear center console and the one in the trunk - and a cigarette lighter next to the ashtray in the front.

German E60's don't have them in the rear center console and don'T have the one in the passenger footwell, only the one in the trunk and the cigarette lighter in the front...
Is it possible to retrofit or ask for install when ordering new car in Europe.
Are there anyone with European spec. car who already have this feature?
Regards

It is possible to retrofit power outlets.
But you need to put a new cable in there, because you can't just hook it up to the Radio or some interior lights in example, because the outlets have more power than the most other things in the car.
So a retrofit can be done, but it takes some labour...
I use an adapter so I can use two things at a time on one power outlet.

Iceman.
Are you using the output in the trunk or the cigarette lighter,
I?think it would be great if they could do it already in the BMW factory when ordering the car.
What do you think?

I think it would be great to have as many as they have in the US, allthough I don't like the cheap plastic look of them in the rear center console.
But the one in the passenger footwell would be nice to have and it would be great to have them at least on the ignition position 1 ("R"), so it doesn't get switched off when you shut the engine off. But that is something the dealer can do.
It would also be great to have at least one of them (maybe the one in the trunk) on permanent power, what so far can't be done without causing trouble in the power management.
I don't know why BMW has decided to not fitting the power outlets in all of the cars, and I can't understand it either. Just the same with the trunk release button...
