I've read a lot of complaints about the run-flats that come on our cars...I really don't have anything to compare them to, so it's not a point of contention for me (yet).
But I'm just curious...for those of you that know quite a bit more about tires than me...is the lack of ride quality and/or performance inherent in any run-flat or just the ones that BMW has decided to mount on our E60's?
The reason I ask is at 5k miles it's time for more tires on our Audi allroad to replace the 18" S03's currently mounted. And from a safety point of view I love the idea of run-flats in that, that is the car my wife is the primary driver on and she is typically carrying around our two children.
TIA
Chris

Iceman-
I'm not either...it just seems that for those on the board who have had the opportunity to go from a run-flat to a non run-flat on their car...they typically comment that the ride quality and/or performance greatly improves
For me, at this moment in time, ignorance is bliss and I am quite happy with the ride of my E60 on the factory 18?s.
But I don't know...maybe one is better than another or??

I've driven cars with 16 inch wheels and 18 inch with run flats.. All though the salesrep wanted me to believe that the 18 inch would tramline a lot and had a harsh ride I didn't notice it, nor did my brother.

Run-flats tend to be a little more harsh and many will notice that. One other thing I've seen with run-flats is that under heavy (and I mean HEAVY) cornering, they have a tendency to "step out" especially if something upsets the balance of the car. Most people will never notice this as they'll never come that close to the limit on these cars.
