I wanted to thank you all for being a part of such great community of BMW 5-series owners and being able to share your vast knowledlge in regards of these cars. 3-days ago I've encountered a problem where without these forums I would be probably down couple of grand and with a regret of replacing my Audi S4 with a BMW 530i. Google must be the second best thing in this world in regards of knowledge database which lead me to find you. My son just had a 1st birthday and the following day my wife and I wanted to exchange some of the duplicate toys to the store that he has been given to our son by our friends. I went to the garage and noticed that my alarm kept on going off and on every minute or so as soon as I've opened the door. Nothing would work and the damn thing would not stop whining (high pitch noise!) - the most annoying sound in the world! Even when I disconnected the battery the annoying whine would not stop. This was driving me crazy. After 15 min of agonizing pain in my head the damn thing shut off for good. I've came to the conclusion that my wife probably let my litte one stand behind the drivers wheel when the car was parked and gave him some wondering time of twisting and turning knobs and left one of the light switches on which drained the battery flat. I've taken out the battery and charged it over 24-hr period. Afterwards, I've inserted the battery back -everything seemed fine but the i-Drive and stereo would not go on. This is where your priceless expertise came in and by guiding me to the flooded trunk, melted MPM (Micro Power Module)- I was able to figure out the problem without forking out thousands of dollars to the dealership for a five minute job. The part cost me $250.00 CND with one day waiting time from the dealer, 5 minute install and everything was back to normal. I'm proud to become a memeber at your forums and consider myself very lucky of finding such a great team of knowledgable people that helped tremendously sharing their wisdom with people like me. I've owned Audi's all my life - but I will admit that switching over to a BMW made me realize what a great vehicles they really are - I don't want to bash Audi's name (as it saved my life in a horrific accident) in any way but for value of your money, BMW stands way ahead of the Audi's game. Sincere Thanks to all BMW owners and again, BIG THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP! Sincerely, Piotr Roszczyk, Mfg. Engineer, Ontario, Canada.

Love stories like this.

Did it not need coding once you plugged it in? I thought nearly all electrical parts did.

And I know what you mean about kids in cars, my 2 year old spends ages in my car - with his shoes off LOL

I appreciate all your input. As far as coding goes, after following instructions on how to re-locate the modules to a safe location by the tail lights from one of the users on these forums, it was only plug and play - no coding was needed. This is my first kid and it's awesome watching it being so curious with everything other than the the baby toys...
I've been in involved with car modification since my eartly 20'ies and I wish that help like this existed back then - dealers should learn to use forum as part of their troubleshooting and we would all save tons of $$$ and unnecessary headaches. Cheers to everyone for all the extra time spent re-searching, testing and sharing their knowledge with people like us that have limited time due to our impatienced kids
Great feedback guys and keep up the good work!

I've noticed a wagon version of the 5-series in your sig - great looking vehicle - we don't see many of those here in Canada. I wish they would extend the BMW selection here as my previous S4 was a wagon also and I love the versatility of those cars. Cheers !

I nearly bought a B6 S4 saloon before the 535d. I was mostly sold on the masculine V8 sound. In the end though I just couldn't leave the BMW fold.

Interesting you don't have many wagons over there - here we call them estates.
I would have thought that Canada would have more, I'm surprised.

Anyway, just to show it off, here is a link with more piccies if you're interested.
