My Ride: 07' BMW 550i
Well I did test drive back to back E60 M5 and my 550, so my friend did same. Well E60 M5 is not really e60, it's just a name and looks, but it's completely different animal. I have sport package, M5 is just way better on ramp (I tried at 40, 50 and 60 mph), soon as you past 45 mph, it's way better. I didn't feel a lot (really a lot more) more power, but it's faster and felt lighter as well.
The engine sound is just BMW motorsport, almost same as I had on my E46 M3. That is metallic and low sound.
I did drive this car before when I had E46 M3, and I felt it's fast but heavy car (it was not so much amazing something), now vs 550 it's lighter and faster. I'm sad that 550 is just luxury saloon with big motor and doubtful performance.
Like I did test drive AMG C55 vs my 550 (couple days ago), well it's fast but not impressive, as M5 or M3 for this matter. C55 has bad traction, wheel spin is easy and on turns felt uncomfortable to push harder.
Nothing I can do now, I have a loan to pay, so wait till payoff and move back M3 series (e90, or E91). I missed these sound, rapid acceleration, firm ride, heavy steering all the time, and nimble feeling.
So it doesn?t matter what car you bought 528, 530, 535, 545, or 550 or put a mods, it?s not going be BMW Motorsport ever. Just relax and spend money wise on M3 or M5.

Is this a post you made while depressed and drinking? I don't follow the point of it. There's different tiers of cars with different pros and cons.. not the least of which is cost. Why not just save up for a Gulfstream G650? Compared to the M5 .. it can get over the Atlantic ocean infinitely faster. I mean I tried in an M5 and it just sank -- what a piece of junk.
Want an E60 with AWD? Sorry M5 is not for you. Want to get more than 10MPG? M5 is not for you. Want to stay in a budget without getting one that's 6 years old.. probably not for you either. If you bought new or close to it .. the two cars are probably about $35,000 different in price. That's not an insignificant jump up in cost for most people. The list goes on..

I could build a 535 that would walk on a stock M5 both on the drag strip and a road course. You could build a supercharged/turbo 530(m54b30) that makes over 420whp and would have more power and weigh 400-500lbs less than a stock M5. Both could be done for less than the M5 and both would get better gas mileage during normal driving. All the M cars are great but they aren't magical or some holy grail. Procede's 600+ rwhp single turbo n54 would beat some well modified M5s if put in a 535

Assuming the former, if you throw $75,000 - $150,000 in mods alone at any one of the cars you've listed above, it would be tough to say which one will win in a race. Just about any car can be made to go fast and even a Veyron can be beat.

Not so long time ago Clarkson showed it, by testing VW GTI with Lambo engine on rear. Well it's quick but no traction whatsoever.
Well I surprised by a bunch ignore replays, it's more looked like Bimmerfest then 5series.net. I didn't post it on bimmerfest because a lot immature people there lately, but it's case here as well.

I was really disappointed with no feed back between engine and transmission compare to M5. (it's same case 535, i had this car for two weeks). Car is not breaking by engine almost at all.
It's really disappointment BMW is making such product since 2005+ year. it's losing this special difference between BMW and all other cars.
Big motors is not important, what important is the attachment and feedback to/from the car.

Well my friend BMW is not about 1/4 miles. You watched to much NASCAR. A lot cars will beat BMW on 1/4 mile. But you not going M5 on rack no matter what you do with your 535. The 50/50 balance is not going be there, plus ratio power and traction.

We aren't talking about some Frankenstein engine in a car that doesn't belong. Comparing a vw with a lamborghini engine to two largely similar vehicles (which for not too much $ would have more power and torque than the M5) is way off base.
